Jenna Genereaux, LMSW

About the Therapist/ Practice Owner

 Jenna graduated from Ferris State University  with a Master of Social Work degree in August 2016. She has 7 years of clinical counseling experience, 5 of which are post grad . She is fully licensed in the state of Michigan. Jenna opened Illuminate My Life Counseling in August 2017. Due to the increase in mental health awareness and crisis, Illuminate My Life Counseling has flourished in its efforts to support the community. 


Jenna  has been touched by many events including facing the foster care system as both a child and foster parent. These experiences have lead her towards her professional interests in clinical therapy. Jenna has training in TF-CBT through her internship experience with the Children's Advocacy Center.  She has also taken trainings in reasoning, ethics, assessment and pain managements, and human trafficking.

Jenna  also developed an educational focus on family dynamics and began working with a local middle school to gain experience. Jenna has experience working with those facing several barriers such as Depression, Anxiety, Domestic violence, Trauma, and more. She has worked with population's from 5-102 years old.

For fun, Jenna enjoys spending time with her husband and children. She has a weightlifting routine and admits to feeling best when she is "moving her body". She also enjoys time at the beach with her favorite season being summer!

Honeysuckle: Office Pup

About Honeysuckle

Animals are proven to be helpful with mental health. Honey often sits in on sessions to allow clients to pet her. She can help with anxiety and depression and other mental health symptoms. Honey is still a pup, and is currently in training to be a successful counseling office pup. 

Honey's Job

Honey enjoys being pet, fed, snuggled and played with. When Honey is tired, she needs her space to rest. Honey loves spending time with clients.

Consent and Liability

In order for Honeysuckle to join you in session, you must read over liability and consent form, along with giving a signature to acknowledge the rules provided.

Alisha Shannon

Meet our Biller/ Assistant/ Secretary!

Alisha has been trained to work with insurance companies, provide knowledge about billing and to tackle any extra task we throw as her! If you have any questions in regards to your co-pay, deductible or any bills you are responsible for in relation to your therapy sessions, Alisha is the one to contact!


Alisha is a mother, daughter, friend and wife. She enjoys spending time with her family.  Alisha also enjoys being involved in the community! She has three dogs, two of which are St Bernard's.  She is always open to learning new things about her job.

Alisha works to verify client insurance, communicate client payments,  submits claims and ensures that the company is being paid so that IMLC can continue to support their clients and staff.

Out of Network Services: Clients are responsible for paying up front. Alisha will provide client with a "super-bill"  to turn into their insurance company for reimbursement (this does not guarantee reimbursement). Clients are encouraged to reach out to their insurance representative to ask about reimbursement for out of network services. 


Sharron Montague, LMSW

About the Therapist

Sharron obtained a Bachelors and Master’s Degree through Ferris State University and is a License Master’s in Social Work (LMSW) Psychotherapist. Sharron’s therapeutic approach to clients is person centered, strength based, and motivation for change. Sharron has been trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF CBT), and Trauma Related Behaviors.


She has extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults as a social worker in the Child Welfare field. Sharron has worked with children and families with trauma related histories including sexual abuse, substance use, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders.  


Sharron enjoys music, camping, boating, reading, and spending time with family. She is a strong advocate, and is passionate about helping clients find their way through turbulent times and transitions in their lives.

Melissa Ryba, LMSW

About the Therapist

Melissa earned her Bachelors and Masters in Social Work from Ferris State University.  She utilizes holistic approach to therapy with a variety of tools, including mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and education to help clients discover their strengths and their ability to overcome obstacles they are facing. 


Melissa has spent her career working with children and families in a variety of settings, including providing counseling to sexually victimized children in home settings, crisis support to runaway and homeless youth, and children in the foster care system.   Melissa provides supportive counseling to adults and children experiencing anxiety, depression, and life challenges. 


Melissa enjoys cycling competitively, hiking, camping, and is on the board of the Northern Michigan Mountain Bike Association. She is nearing the “empty nest” stage of life with a senior in high school and a junior in college. She has two dogs, Bella and Roxy, who are usually within five feet of her at all times. Jennifer Lamoreaux, LLMSW

About the Therapist

Jennifer obtained both her Bachelors and Masters in Social Work from Ferris State University, and is a Limited License Masters of Social Work (LLMSW) Clinician. She has experience working in the mental health field and has the ability to connect with families, adults and children.  


In her spare time Jennifer loves to learn new things such as historical facts, ways to improve, crafts( Kumihimo), painting with a variety of mediums, reading and gaming. When Jennifer is home she loves spending time with her daughters, her two Boston terriers and pug pom (Rocky, Polie, and Bubbles) and her black cat Onyx.

Kacie Berthelot, LLMSW

About the Therapist

Kacie obtained her Bachelor of Social Work from Saginaw Valley State University and her Masters in clinical Social Work degree from Ferris State University. Kacie has spent 10+ years navigating the mental health field and foster care system while advocating for others.  Most recently, Kacie spent three years facilitating clinical therapy in practice.


Kacie is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) trained and has large experience work with trauma, TBI (traumatic brain injury), anxiety and depression as well as an array of other mental health disorders. Kacie enjoys helping individuals, couples, and small groups of all ages, however, her focus is in working with the pre-teen and teenage population (10 – 17 years). 


Kacie loves photography and getting outside to spend time in nature whenever given the chance! She finds benefit in bringing these enjoyments into her sessions as well by doing walk-and-talk sessions outside (when weather permits). Kacie’s passion in showing others it is possible (and strategies) to strengthen and improve even the darkest areas of ones life leads her to practicing from a trauma-informed and positive/motivational therapeutic approach while focusing on each clients individuals needs.

Joan Ledford, LPC

About the Therapist

Joan obtained her Masters from Western Michigan University in Counseling. She is a fully licensed Professional Counselor.  Joan has experience working with children and adults ages 6-26 through her internship at Equine Learning Center where she gained experience in neurodiversity in adult and

child populations, trauma sensitive programs, and lifespan growth & development. 


Joan has an understanding of cognitive theories connected to narrative therapy, storytelling, creativity, and use of expressive arts in counseling. Joan also has training in Postpartum Support and Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders as well as BEST: Birth Emergency Skills Training for Out-of-Hospital Providers in 2016. She completed training in Human Trafficking in 2020 and received Implicit Bias Training in 2021.


As well as being a mother, grandmother, Joan served from 1995-2005 as a postpartum doula and homebirth midwifery apprentice in Manistee County before beginning her collegiate career. She received a certificate as a Certified Midwifery Assistant from the Ancient Art Midwifery Institute in 1996. Along with her work with clients at Illuminate My Life Counseling, Joan serves as a substitute teacher within Northwest Education Services’ school districts.

About the Therapist

Emma earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Eastern Michigan University and a Master’s degree of Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Michigan University. 


She has over a decade of experience working with families and children and has training in cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and person-centered care.


Emma specializes in issues related to childhood trauma/abuse, sexual trauma, eating disorders, relationships, adolescent issues, self-esteem, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, and crisis response.


She is an animal-lover, podcast and audiobook enthusiast, and can usually be found painting on the weekends or at the beach in the summertime!

Marisa Topp- Behrmann

About the Therapist

Marisa has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Business from Davenport University, and earned a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Ferris State University with Highest Distinction.


Marisa’s focus is with Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) to address chronic clinical ailments such as high stress, anxiety, depressive negative thought patterns, and dysphoric moods for conscious emotional processing. 


She also has extensive experience in conflict resolution as a marriage, family, and civil court issues mediator. 

Marisa is an avid hot yoga enthusiast, Petoskey stone rock hunter, and water lover. She enjoys nutritional science, eastern philosophy, art, and international movies.
